Background
As part of the 125 year celebrations, Glenfiddich took 13 casks made from Nordic Oak around Scandinavia (and also another set around North America) on to which the locals could inscribe their hopes, dreams and aspirations in the hope of Glenfiddich making them come true - a lucky person got to drive around Silverstone in a F1 car I believe. Anyway these 13 casks were returned to Dufftown and used to finish some single malt and released as a special edition of 3600 bottles back in the Nordic bloc for the lucky few to grab 70cl of history :) we managed to get the last three in Norway...
Tasting Notes
Nose: a smooth blend of vanilla and citrus orange sweetness
Palate: similarly sweet with citrus notes and a hint of mint in there - menthol mints rather than from the garden.
Finish: medium length for us, providing delicious vanilla transforming into a pleasant peppery warmth towards the end.
Water: enhanced the orange flavour on the finish, and moved the spice more towards the initial palate with vanilla remaining a constant - the nose was ruined by water for us however.
Verdict: a delicious balanced Speyside dram with delightful orange citrus notes. This is pleasant whisky to start a flight with or enjoy some winter sunshine. 7.5/10.
